Assertiveness Workshop

Assertiveness – a Complete Program for Clients

1-day Workshop: 14 July, 9.30-4.30 pm in Purley, Surrey
5.5 hours CPD, Certificates provided, £85

Healthy assertiveness enables clients to consolidate their gains, and to endorse the growth or healing experienced in therapy.  It is equally valuable to individuals at different points on the continuum – for example, to those who are passive/meek as in low self-esteem, to those with poor affect control, or to those who demonstrate aggressive behaviours often associated with anger issues.  However, assertiveness classes are very hard to find, and the books available only partially meet the need.  Equally, practitioners sometimes omit teaching about assertiveness for lack of training, or confidence to do so.  When clients make significant progress in therapy, they need skills to support and enhance their growth – skills to help them practically and safely negotiate new ways of being, and to facilitate better relationships.

This is that workshop and is open to all mental health practitioners (counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists et al) and also to life coaches and mentors, since the material is applicable to practitioners from many disciplines and models.

The day runs from 9.30-4.30 pm, on 14th July 2018; arrival is from 9.15 pm.
Tea and coffee will be provided, please bring your own lunch.

The day includes didactic and experiential learning, skills training and a program of material to help practitioners coach clients in assertiveness, including information about healthy assertiveness, unhealthy presentations (including aggressive, passive and passive-aggressive), client assessments, staged skills progression plans, opportunities to practice, and pre-prepared handouts for clients to take away.  Please see a sample of the ‘client overview’ from the handouts provided in the program, any of which can be used selectively or in their entirety: Assertiveness Client Program Overview

Costing only £85, bookings can be made directly with Lindsay Schofield at: cornerstoneintegratedtherapy@gmail.com.   Attendance confers the right to photocopy material for clients, but not to share material with colleagues who did not attend.   Do consider coming with colleagues since that creates more opportunities to ‘practice’ with the material after the workshop.

The venue is Christ Church, Purley on the Brighton Road.  It is well served by train, bus and road with some free parking on site, and also in local streets.  Purley train station is @10 minutes’ walk from the venue and there are bus stops very close to the church.  See how to get to Christ Church by bus and National Rail using the Moovit App: https://moovit.com/

How do you work with clients who need to develop assertiveness?
Do you know when it’s best to introduce assertiveness work?
Do you understand which clients may need support in learning about assertiveness? Do you recommend a book? Give a handout?
Do you know how to identify with whom and in which settings your client struggles most?
Do you know how to assess your client’s degree or particular area of difficulty?
Perhaps you feel equipped to teach it, but lack the resources Perhaps you want to ‘top up’ your own assertiveness skills too.
Join us at this workshop to learn the answers to these questions and more.  The training is both educational and interactive.
You will leave with a programme of material and experience that will equip you to teach assertiveness as part of your client work – facilitating clients’ growth and endorsing the gains they make in treatment.

I hope to see you there!

Lindsay
